The Galaxy A55 is the first A-series phone with a metal frame instead of plastic — a significant upgrade that makes it feel substantially more premium. Display
The 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate is genuinely stunning for a mid-range phone. Colours are vivid, blacks are deep, and the smooth scroll of 120Hz makes everything feel responsive. Vision Booster technology improves outdoor readability significantly — a practical improvement for everyday use.
Performance
The Exynos 1480 processor handles everyday tasks — social media, streaming, web browsing, photography — effortlessly. Gaming performance is solid for casual titles but heavy games like Genshin Impact show occasional frame drops at maximum settings. 8GB of RAM ensures smooth multitasking. For the vast majority of users this processor is more than capable.
Camera System
The triple camera — 50MP main with OIS, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro — produces excellent results for a mid-range phone. The main sensor's optical image stabilisation makes a real difference for low-light and action shots. Night photography is impressive for the price point. The 32MP selfie camera flatters without over-smoothing. Video at 4K 30fps is capable but can't match flagship video quality.
Battery Life
The 5000mAh battery consistently delivers two full days of moderate use. Even heavy users typically end the day with charge remaining. The 25W wired charging isn't the fastest available but fills the battery in around 70 minutes. Wireless charging is absent — a genuine limitation at this price point.
Software and Updates
The A55 ships with One UI 6.1 based on Android 14 and Samsung has committed to four Android OS updates and five years of security patches. This update commitment is exceptional for a mid-range phone and significantly extends the phone's useful life.
Verdict
