Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 in March 2026 with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a $100 price increase. Is it worth buying over the iPhone 17 or Pixel 10?
Samsung announced the Galaxy S26 on February 25, 2026 and released it on March 11, 2026. The S26 now starts at $899, S26+ at $1,099, and S26 Ultra at $1,299 — each $100 more than predecessors. Here is whether the upgrades justify the price increase.
Galaxy S26 — $899
Larger 6.3-inch flat display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Android 16 with One UI 8.5, and 25W wired charging. Performance is excellent across all tasks. Camera hardware carries over from S25 — 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto — but software processing improvements deliver the best colour accuracy of any Galaxy S. At $899 it is a harder sell when iPhone 17 offers comparable features at $799.
Galaxy S26 Ultra — $1,299
The Ultra remains uniquely compelling. The built-in S Pen is something no other flagship offers. The 200MP main camera with widened f/1.4 aperture is extraordinary. Privacy Display — the world first phone feature that narrows viewing angle on demand — is a genuine innovation for public privacy. 60W wired charging is the fastest Samsung has ever shipped on a flagship. The S26 Ultra is the most complete flagship Android in 2026.

All S26 models ship with Android 16 and One UI 8.5. Samsung now guarantees seven years of Android OS updates — matching Google Pixel commitment for the first time.
Should You Buy?
S26 Ultra is an easy recommendation for Android power users — the S Pen, Privacy Display, and 200MP camera are genuinely unique. The standard S26 at $899 is harder to recommend when iPhone 17 offers comparable features at $799 and Pixel 10 offers better cameras at the same price. Best value at $799: iPhone 17 or Pixel 10.
